The death anniversary of Sufi Saint Hazrat Mashhad Ali is being observed at his Dargah in Samaana near Patiala.

The event holds great significance due to the high respect it holds among Asian Shiite Muslims and people from all religions.

Samaana, which is 30 kilometres from Patiala, has been an abode of love and peace for devotees who visit this place from far off places and even different countries.

On the death anniversary of Hazrat Imam Mashhad Ali, the 11th descendant of Prophet Mohammad, Shias from countries like Pakistan, Iran and England came to pay their respects.

"It was Samaana, where the 11th descendant of Hazrat Mohammad (Hazrat Mashhad Ali) was laid to rest. This was also the first stoppage point for Prophet Mohammad's family", says Dr.Nashir Naqvi of Punjab University, Patiala.

Recently, a rare piece of stone was rediscovered at the Dargah. The stone is said to have a Persian inscription on it.

Over the years, the place has become a centre for peace, love and friendship for one and all from all parts of the country and abroad.

"He was a Sufi saint and belonged to the family of Prophet Mohammad. We've dug out remains and we are making this place a centre of love and peace, spreading the message of friendship across nations", said Syed Sibte Razi, the Governor of Jharkhand.

Besides devotees from Shia faith, the death anniversary is being attended by people belonging to all religions and sects. All of them wish to have a glimpse of the Sufi saint's Dargah.

The occasion is seen as an opportunity to revive relations and share religious beliefs with all.

"People from our (Indian) side have gone to Pakistan with our religious books, to reiterate our religious ethos. We have always believed in promoting relations with our neighbours. Winds of change are blowing", said A.R.Kidwai , the Governor of Haryana. (ANI)
