Wings Of Wisdom

By Terry Morris, *Yellow Springs youth to perform timeless fable of strength, unity* - Dayton Daily News - Dayton, Ohio, USA
Friday, July 3, 2010

What do you get when you combine kids, jazz, a 12th century Sufi fable and theater visionary Peter Brook?

If John Fleming is also involved, you get an original summer musical performed by young people.

The founder and director of Yellow Springs Kids Playhouse is staging “Wings of Wisdom,” an original jazz musical for YSKP, July 8-18 at the Antioch Amphitheater.

The story, based on Brook’s adaptation of the original parable, is about an arduous bird migration that leads to nothing more than the flock’s reflection in a lake. At least, that’s one way to interpret it.

Lyrics are by Fleming, with music by Neal Kirkwood. The band Gorilla My Love, featuring Harry Mann, will perform the music. Puppets by Tristan Cupp and Pierre Nagley will be used in the production.

Times will be 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. More information is available at www.yskp.org or (937) 767-7800
