An author of several books on the subject of Sufism, Rachid Ben Rochd of the Boutchichiyya Sufi Order approach us to the world of Sufism through his book published under the title "Twelve centuries of Sufism in Morocco."

The book traces the history of the Sufi movement in Morocco since the first implantation of the two main tariqas, Shadiliya and Qadiriyya, which arrived from the East in the 13th century CE.

These gave birth, over the centuries, to other branches such as the Tijaniya, the Boutchichiyya, the Darqaouiya and many more, whose Zaouias [spiritual schools] have played an important role in the religious life -often political and social as well- in Morocco.
