The Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre hosted “Rooh-e-Ishq”, a unique Asian musical, which had as its theme the idea of unravelling the world of Sufism through music, theatre and poetry.

Created by Malhaar, UAE’s Indian music choir, the show followed the journey of Sufism through myriad lands and languages. The musical depicted the life and works of Jalalud’din Rumi, Amir Khusro, Bulleh Shah and Kabir, four masters of Sufi.

It encompassed varieties of Sufi music from the traditional compositions in native languages to the contemporary facets of Sufi in Bollywood and pop-albums.

Organiser said that the musical’s aim was to convey the message of love and peace.

The music form is hugely popular in South Asian countries. Meanwhile Thiranottam, a cultural organisation from Kerala, hosted an evening with Kathakali artists from Kerala in Karama.

A musical session, lecture and demonstration was organised to display the traditional art form of Kerala. Famous Kathakali artist Kalanilayam Gopi and his team were the performers for the evening. Mr Gopi is a popular Kathakali exponent reputed for his skill in donning a wide range of characters of the Kathakali plays.
