The Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora will establish Kashmiri department from next academic session.
This was disclosed by Vice Chancellor Prof Sidiq Wahid while releasing the book ‘Yemen Paden Me Wechare Gushoe’ on legendary Sufi saint Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani (RA) by Dr Bashar Basheer at Chrar-e-Sharief. Wahid said the future of Kashmiri language is secured.
He said the Sufi saint was a visionary and added that his works need to be promoted on modern lines.
Wahid enthralled the listeners quoting two famous couplets of Sheikh on corruption and societal change.The Islamic University Vice Chancellor said that his varsity will not only work on Kashmiri language but also try to introduce other languages spoken in Jammu Kashmir.
The function organized by Bazme Adab Saqafat Charar-e-Sharief in collaboration with Auqaf Islamia and district administration released the book at an impressive function.
In his welcome address, noted lawyer and writer Ghulam Nabi Gowhar said there is an urgent need to collect the works of Sheikh lying with different persons and added that the Islamic University can lend a helping hand in this regard. “The university can also help promote works of Kashmiri Mystic Philosophy at different religious centers spread in Kashmir valley,” Gowhar said.
Lauding Basher, Gowhar said that his work will help bring out new dimensions of the personality of the great Sufi saint.
Prof Shaad Ramzan said Sheikh was not only a poet but an intellectual visionary philosopher. “The work by the author will act as research material for the scholars who can also uncover several dimensions of this great Sufi saint,” Ramzan said.
Director Doordarshan, Rafiq Masoodi who also spoke on the occasion said that the book points to new dimensions of Sheikh’s personality that have so far remained elusive to the reader.
Bashar Basheer said that his effort was to bring out the real essence of the 650 shruks (couplets) of Sheikh so that others too can work on different aspects of the legendary Sufi saint who had outlined the future for us with his vision more than 650 years ago.
Muhammad Younus Sagar presented the vote of thanks. Inayat Gul compeered the program. Others who attended the function included Asadullah Afaqi, Ghulam Ali Majboor, Sultan-ul Haq Saheedi, Prof Naseem Shafiee and Khursheed Qureshi.
A Mehfile Musayira was also organized on the occasion in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
