Working On The Cases
Tuesday, May 4, 2010
New Delhi: The CBI’s probe has established the role of two inter-linked terror modules in allegedly executing the May 2007 Mecca mosque blast in Hyderabad and the October 2007 Ajmer Sufi shrine blast in Rajasthan, two year ago.
CBI [Central Bureau of Investigation] director Ashwani Kumar said, “Our probe has established the commonalities between the perpetrators and modus operandi behind the Mecca mosque blast and the Ajmer dargah blast in 2007.”
He added, “Among the commonalities between the two terror attacks was the Indore connection: Indore’s Sunil Joshi had played an important role in orchestrating both the blasts. Also, the same set of SIM cards was used to activate the bomb-triggers used in the two blasts.”
The CBI, Rajasthan police and Hyderabad police are working together on the cases, he said, adding that he was expecting the Mecca mosque blast case to be solved soon.
Joshi, allegedly a former pracharak (volunteer) of the RSS, was murdered in December 2007 in Dewas. Joshi had allegedly played a role in preparing the explosive used in the Mecca blast. Joshi, a source said, was also identified by Lt Colonel Prasad Purohit — accused in the Malegaon blast — as the man who allegedly executed the blast at Ajmer shrine through his aide Devendra Gupta alias Ramesh Kumar.
Gupta, arrested last week, is a key link in the two blasts, since the SIM card bought by him in Bengal was used to operate the two mobile phone sets used as bomb-triggers.
The CBI director’s revelations dumped the theory that the Mecca blast had been orchestrated by the HuJI [Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami].
