Azhar Grand Imam urges Islamic scholars to translate real meaning of Sufism to serve religion
The Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayyeb urged Islamic scholars to have mutual cooperation with each other and translate the real meaning of Sufism to serve religion and to take advantage of Al-Azhar moderate approach.
He urged them to steer away from sectarian and political disputes to cope up with the current international challenges that face the Islamic nation.
The remarks were made in his address to the First World Conference of Sufism, which began its proceedings on 24/9/2011 under the rubric "authentic approach to reform".
The statement was delivered on his behalf by Dr. Hassan Al Shafie the Secretary General of the Conference.
Al-Tayyeb asserted that true Sufism is a humanitarian necessity. It calls for charity and work and struggle to serve humanity away from any sectarian disputes or partisan one and seeks to build an Islamic civilization under Islamic law and establish jihad in the way of Allah to liberate Muslim land that was usurped and not for aggression on anyone.
