Washington: Head of Turkey`s Religious Affairs [Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı] Mr Ali Bardakoglu attended a meeting which took place in Rumi Forum in Washington on Friday.

Bardakoglu said that a modern, secular and democrat Islamic country like Turkey should take place in Europe so that it could contribute to peace of religions.

He said that Turkey was a genuine example as it kept democracy, secularism, Islam and modernity together in itself with harmony and peace.

Bardakoglu said that people, regardless of their beliefs and religions, should learn to live in peace by respecting each other.

He said that EU membership of Turkey would have gains for the perception of each Europe, Turkey and Islamic countries.
