Iranian Hafez expert Bahaeddin Khorramshahi was honored during a ceremony that was held on the occasion of Hafez National Day at the Razi Conference Center on Saturday.
Focused on the mysticism in Hafez poetry, the ceremony was attended by several academics and Hafez researchers.
“We all gather in this place for the commemoration of Hafez. I appreciate Kurosh Kamali Sarvestani’s efforts in registering Hafez National Day on the Iranian calendar and I hope that more countries will celebrate this day in the next few years,” Khorramshahi remarked during the ceremony.
In comparison to other Persian mystics, Hafez is not an eminent mystic. Although he was aware of mysticism and included some mystical elements in his works, he did not look at mysticism as a tool for his poetry, he added.
“Hafez is firstly a great poet and then secondly a mystic unlike other Iranian mystics who are also considered as poets,” Khorramshahi added.
At the end of the ceremony, Bahaeddin Khorramshahi was presented with a plaque of honor.
The event was cosponsored by the Art and Culture Organization of Tehran Municipality and the Iran University of Medical Sciences.
