Mayors of Shiraz in Iran and Qods in Palestine Mehran Etemadi and Zaki al-Ghoul made a proposal to declare the two places as sister cities.
The offer was made during the one-long visit on Friday by Asian cities mayors to Shiraz in Fars province, southern Iran. The Qods mayor, al-Ghoul, said that Shiraz enjoys great cultural and historical potentials and natural attractions.
Referring to famous poets and philosopher Saadi, Hafez and Molla Sadra who were born and lived in Shiraz, al-Ghoul said that the city is the cradle of literature and science, the Islamic republic news agency reported.
He also said that Islamic Revolution in 1979 is a big historic event that not only belongs to the Iranian nation, but to the whole world.
The mayor of Qods appreciated Iran for its support for Palestinians. He added that declaration of Shiraz and Qods as sister cities can inspire hope among the people living in Qods.
Asian cities mayors met in Tehran on November 19.
