Islamabad: US Embassy Cultural Attache Constance Colding Jones Friday held a meeting with Pakistan Academy of Letters Chairman Fakhar Zaman and shared with him common literary interests between the two countries.
During the meeting, various matters of mutual interest including the publication of the Anthology project of Pakistani and American poets were discussed.
Speaking on the occasion, PAL Chairman Fakhar Zaman said the exchange of writers between America and Pakistan is very important because both Pakistani and Americans do not know about the new Pakistani and American writers and the new trend of Pakistani and US literature. Therefore it is important to exchange visits of writers to comprehend the new literature produced in Pakistan and America.
The PAL chairman said that the academy has initiated the delegates exchange programme with different countries, and United States of America (USA) is also an important part in this programme. Fakhar Zaman told Constance Colding Jones that in the International Conference of Writers and Intellectuals organised by PAL in 1995, intellectuals and writers from USA also participated in a significant manner, as a vibrant part of the literary interaction between 400 delegates from 100 countries of the world.
He said that in the forthcoming International Conference ‘Sufism and Peace’ scheduled in May 2009, the soft image of Pakistan will be revived and the message of peace, love and tolerance by our ‘Sufi’ poets will be spread throughout the world.
In the forthcoming International Conference ‘Sufism and Peace’ in May 2009 by PAL, 100 delegates from 60 countries including delegation of writers and intellectuals from America will participate.
During her visit to PAL, Constance Colding Jones appreciated the vibrant literary countenance of the academy and admired the sketches of Pakistani writers displayed as a tribute in the Academy. Fakhar Zaman also presented the publications of PAL to Constance Colding Jones.
