Sheikh-ul-Alam’s (RA) Kalam prevails over in Sufi festival

Srinagar, Kashmir: On the third day of the Sufi Festival jam packed audience at SKICC continued to be spellbound by the performance of top artists of India and Pakistan.

The festival organized by Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Doordarshan in collaboration with the departments of Information and Tourism is first of its kind in the cultural history of Kashmir.
Artists with their performance put balm on the aching hearts and parched souls on the third day of the festival. Erasing the concept of time from the minds for a while both artists and audience experienced the spiritual high ecstasy. The poetry of Hazart Sheikh Noor Din (R.A) had mesmerizing effect on audience and the participants.

The artists gathered in the land of saints in an effort to spread the message of universal brotherhood. Prominent amongst performers today were Yaqoob Shiekh who presented Kashmiri Sufiyana Kalam and enrolled the audience, Umrao Mazhar Bandhu Khan, a Pakistani Sufi Artist presented Sufiyana Kalam from Pakistani lyrics, Barkat Sidhu & party, Abdul Rashid Hafiz Kashmiri artist and Ms Zila Khan also memorized audience with their performance.
The seeds of Sufism in Kashmir were sown in 1320 by great Hazarat Bulbulshah (RA) and was carried forward by other great saints of the time and the role played by Sufi saints like Hazarat Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) and Lal Ded in further propagating it, is know throughout the world.

Last night Santoor maestro Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma along with his son Pt. Rahul Sharma, with their creative genius, presented a scintillating performance, which took the audience to a world of spiritual nourishment. For this father- son duo, Sufiyana is not only a medium of simple music but a from of worship, the listeners felt plunged into a sense of meditation and a state of deep thoughtfulness.

Ustad Ghulam Muhammad Saznawaz was the first artist to perform the mysitic chants of Sufiyana. Ustad Saznawaz, who has to his credit several national and international awards, wooed the audience with his voice and talent on Santoor.
