Singer Kailash Kher, who's sporting a new look too. In a no-holds-barred tete è tete with us, he tells us about his dream girl and his future plans.

Kailash Kher is a changed man, and we mean it. Gone are those long locks and that forlorn look. They have been replaced instead by short-cropped hair which complements his rockstar attire, complete with accessories to match the image.

In town to perform at a well-known shopping mall, LT met up with the singer to find out the reason behind the sudden make over, and yeah, you guessed it right and his quest for love has everything to do with it...!

By his own admission, he is looking for Ms Right. "Yes, it is true that I am on the look out for my soul mate. My dad, who is also my astrologer, has predicted wedding bells for me by the end of the year. So let's see. My schedule is such that there is no time to meet the prospective brides who have been short-listed by my family. Marriage is something that cannot be decided in a hurry,"he explains.

That however does not stop him from letting us know what his ideal woman is like. "She should be a lecturer or a professor and belong to the academic arena. I am a simple man, so naturally I want to plan a life with someone who shares my views and simple lifestyle.

And she has to be very sensitive because I'm an extra-sensitive person myself. Isiliye usme shaleenta bhari honi chahiye. Lekin woh teacher na ho bas. Teachers buddhu hote hai..."he says as an after thought. Past experience perhaps?

And with Beckham, Salman and Dhoni shedding their locks to better their personal and professional prospects, we ask him if the happening new look has helped further his already happening career?

Replies the Sufi king, "Long hair has served as a muse for many writers and singers over the years. And it served the same purpose for me too.

But as I got deeply involved in my work, I just could not find time to manage my long tresses. Hence, I decided to chop them. There's nothing more to it than that,"he tries hard to convince us. "In fact, I am feeling so much better now! It's a whole new feeling,"he adds.

With his personal life on track, we quiz him on his professional plans. "Having just released my new album, I am touched with the response it has got, specially from the younger generation. I get invitations from the IITs and the IIMs in the country to sing at their youth festivals and the response is phenomenal.

I take heart in the fact that the educated and enlightened youth are responding to the call of the soul which finds expression through music, and it will definitely be a revolutionary change," he avers.

Post Swades, Mangal Pandey-The Rising, and his latest chartbuster from Fanaa 'Subhaan allah...' which has the nation on a song, Kher is now working on the sequel of his new album. Apart from that, his tracks feature in Madhur Bhandarkar's next, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani's Khosla Ka Ghosala, Amitabh Bachchan starrer Babul and Nikhil Advani's Salame Ishq.

"I also plan to do a number of concerts in India and abroad with my new band members. So the year ahead really looks good...."So it does.

And with the ghar ki laxmi just round the corner, can the real life Laxmi be far behind?
